Monsters with Frole Island

We have now finished our monster project with Frole Island.  It was a lot of fun and we have enjoyed seeing how well we were able to get our instructions across to our partners across in Australia.  Thank you to Miss Fraser who invited us to join with her class in this project.  She first saw 4KM and 4KJ  do this project with Mr Avery’s class.  You can see their efforts here.

We thought:

A couple were amazingly similar – check out Monique’s monster for example.

Some were similar but their personalities were totally different.

Others were similar too, even if shades of colour are different.

While some of us gave a lot of measurements, Monique commented that she didn’t give measurements because it could be too confusing.  Perhaps a wise choice.

Some students really read the instructions, some left out things that were in the instructions.  Or – our instructions didn’t give enough detail, for example telling which way the head was facing – “I just took it for granted” said one of the students.

We had tried drawing Sara’s one in class before we published and Monique commented, “I am not surprised she put stripes like that, I did exactly the same when I was doing it.”

You can link here to the Frole Island’s written descriptions and the monsters that they drew and our impressions of the monster. We will make a few more comments when we view this together on Wednesday.
